Macau launches MOP468 million rewards scheme: what residents and small businesses should know

Published 10 October 2026 (Macau time) · Azea Research

Macau launched its 2026 community consumption rewards programme on October 9, offering approximately MOP468 million in benefits over ten weeks, through December 17. The government and Macao Chamber of Commerce are seeking to support neighbourhood businesses during the interval between Golden Week and Christmas.

Residents using participating, identity-verified e-wallets can earn three reward-claim opportunities after a single eligible transaction with an actual payment of at least MOP50 on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Each verified wallet account is capped at three opportunities per week; unused opportunities disappear early Monday.

Government e-vouchers can be redeemed from the day they are claimed through the following Thursday, then expire early Friday. Redemption requires an actual payment of at least three times the voucher’s face value. More than 20,000 eligible physical outlets accept them. Merchant-funded discount and gift coupons apply at their respective designated merchants, so shoppers should check the relevant coupon before paying. October 9 launch announcement

Eligible holders of Macau Pass senior or disability cards can collect an additional MOP500 benefit at more than 100 service points. It covers half of each eligible purchase, with the other half deducted from the holder’s own balance. Collection and use run through December 17; unused benefits expire when the programme ends. Azea’s analysis

The scheme gives residents a reason to bring planned purchases forward and gives small businesses an opportunity to attract repeat customers. Its economic impact will depend on how much genuinely additional spending reaches those shops, how widely it is distributed, and whether customers return after the incentives end. The announced MOP468 million measures benefits offered; assessing the gain to local commerce will require redemption and sales evidence.

For households, the practical priority is to fit vouchers around purchases already needed. For merchants, clear redemption instructions and careful tracking of margins and repeat visits will offer a more useful measure of success than voucher-related turnover alone.
